You can add closed captioning to any Windows Media Player video by following the steps below.
(Please note this is only available using Windows Media Player)
1. Find any video with Closed Captioned on DE. These videos are identified by the closed captioning icon.
2. Within the Media Settings of a specific video on DE, check the Enable Closed Captioning Button.
3. Under the video listing, save the closed captioning file by:
PC: right clicking on the closed captioning icon and selecting to Save Target As...(IE) or Save Link As... (Firefox)
Mac: hold down Ctrl Key and click on closed captioning icon.
4. Save the video file in a Closed Caption folder on your computer.
5. Once the files are downloaded, open the Closed Caption folder and right-click on the .smi file to open with Notepad. Mac users can do this only if you have a machine that has the Windows operating system.
6. Once you open the .smi file in Notepad, you will see the video code. Erase the text of the video only and none of the code.
7. Now you have a blank template that you can use to insert your own words where the video text once existed.
8. Make a copy of this template file and save it in your Close Caption folder.
9. Find ANY video within DE and download it into your Close Caption folder.
10. Once saved, take note of the file name, and change one of your closed captioning templates to match the video file name. Note that the two file names must match exactly except for the file extension.
11. Open the newly created .smi file with notepad and enter your own closed captioning to the video.
12. Once you play the video, you will see the closed captioning that you had created.
Make sure that you have properly enabled closed captioning in Windows Media Player by clicking here.
