Increase closed captioning text size

When using closed captioning, the text may not be as large as you would like it to be. To increase the size of the text on the video, follow the steps below.

  1. Download both the video and closed captioning file into a folder. Make sure both files are named the same. The only difference should be the file extension.

  2. Open the closed captioning file (.smi) in a text-editing program like WordPad or Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Open with....

  3. On the .smi file, locate the line of code that indicates "font size."  This is usually about the sixth line of code.

  4. Increase the font size to 20 pts or larger.

  5. Save and close your file in your folder with the video file.

  6. The next time you view the video, the size of the text will be larger.
