Access the Quiz Builder from anywhere on the site by clicking on "My Builder Tools" in the navigation bar at the top of the screen.
To get started, click on "Create New" from the Quiz Builder home page and follow these easy steps:
Step 1: General Information
Start by providing information about your quiz in the form provided. The quiz name, author, school, subject area, and grade level are required fields. You can save the quiz to an existing folder or to a new folder. You can also create quiz instructions, learning objectives and teacher notes. Teacher notes are not displayed to the students. The quiz options are optional: receive an email notification when a student completes this quiz, display quiz questions in a random order, present the quiz "question by question" instead of all at once, allow the student to view graded quiz (this will reveal the correct answers), and allow the student to take the quiz more than once.
You can save your quiz by clicking on the "Save/Continue" button at the bottom of the screen. If you choose not to click Save, a warning message will appear on each step thereafter, until you click on the Save button and select the folder within My Content to which you would like to save your quiz.
Step 2: Add Materials
You can use the Keyword Search to add full videos and video segments to your quiz or search for video content by Subject, Grade, Media Type, and Service. You can also use the radio buttons to search in the entire Discovery Education Library or just in My Content.
Step 3: Add Questions
You may write your own questions or use the Question Databank, which contains thousands of questions that you can add to your quiz. You have the option of using four types of questions: Multiple Choice (Multiple and Single answers), Short Answer/Essay, and True/False. Your current quiz questions are listed below.
To add a question from the Question Databank, type in a keyword in the search box and click "Go." The results list will populate. To view the full question and answer, click on the blue question title. The type of question is also listed in the "Type" column next to the question title. To add questions to your quiz, mark the checkbox in the "Add" column and click "Add Selected Questions to Quiz."
The Current Quiz Questions box will allow you to change the order of the questions. You may also remove questions by checking the box under the "Remove" column and clicking "Remove."
Step 4: Preview
The Preview feature allows you to see what your quiz looks like in its final form. This allows you to preview the quiz before you assign it. If you wish to make changes, simply click on any of the steps in the process chain. You also have the option to print out the quiz instead of having students complete the quiz online. The printing options are to print quiz, print quiz to Microsoft Word, print quiz with correct answers, and print quiz with correct answers to Microsoft Word.
You may print this out directly from a webpage or from Microsoft Word. It will have a line for the student's name and the date at the top right corner. It will also have the name of the quiz on the top left corner.
Step 5: Assign
The Assign feature allows you to share assignment information with your students. You have two options on how you can assign a Quiz to students. For assigning an assignment to a class or student click the "Assign by Class or Student" tab. You can then assign your Quiz to your created classrooms or students by checking the box and clicking Assign.
For students who do not have a username and password you can provide the Assignment Code or URL to them by clicking on "Assign by Code or URL" tab, you provide the Assignment Code or URL to your students.
When you provide the Assignment Code, students will need to go to http://assignments.discoveryeducation.com and enter the assignment code and their first and last name in the fields provided. If you do not provide the Assignment Code, students can go directly to the Assignment URL where the Assignment Code will pre-populate. Students simply need to enter their first and last name in the field provided.
